Spoken by Dave:
[Strums guitar] I'm just gonna slow things a little and play a few of my
favorite folk songs. [Strums guitar] You know, just sorta take a breather
from the comedy and sit back and feel the good feeling. [Strums guitar]
'Cause I don't know about you folks, but I for one am very happy to see the,
uh, resurgence of folk music in this nation. [Strums guitar] You know,
that, uh, Tarcy Chapman is going great guns and, uh, Michelle Shocked, well
she's, she's, uh, quite a promising young, uh, talent. [Strums guitar] And
festivals dedicated to folk music are springing up all around this great
nation like, uh, mushrooms. Now, this couldn't be happier 'cause you know
I, I ain't ever been a big fan of rock'n'roll music. Oh, maybe that makes
me square, maybe I'm a little old fashioned and out of touch, but I guess
I'll have to live with that. Nope, for me, rock'n'roll music, and excuse
me if this is corny, just gives off too many bad vibes. [Strums guitar]
All I know is I never heard of anybody up for a murder charge and tryin' to
pin it on Pete Seeger. And as near as I can remember, the Manson Family
never scribed in blood on a wall "Skip to My Loo." So, I just want you to
sit back and relax 'cause the acoustic guitar never did nobody no harm no
how. [Plays guitar] Sorry, I seem to be just a little bit out of tune.
Hope you just bear with me for a second while I tune up my, my good ol'
buddy. [Plucks top string. Tightens it until it breaks. Does the same
with the second. Starts to do the same with the third, but breaks it by
hand. Stretches the three strings to simulate that they aren't broken.
Smiles big.] 1, 2, 3, 4. [Fails in his attempt to play. Drops his pick.]
What the hell folks. Long live rock! [Breaks his guitar, a la Pete
Townshend.]
