Dave is here with us now! Welcome, Dave, to NBC Live!
Dave Foley:
Sorry for being so tardy at starting. I was trying to log-on and
I was being
an idiot. I was trying to join you in cyberspace.
Luvchil:
I love "Kids in the Hall" and really enjoyed Brain Candy!!! Are
you guys
going to do another "Kids" movie together? Where can I see reruns
of Kids
in the Hall???J Beth from Jackson, Mississippi
Dave Foley:
Because not so many people shared your love for "Brain Candy"
it might be
difficult for us to do another one. But we havenŐt given up. We
hope to
do something else together in the future.
Tvfan1499w:
ALAN IN FLINT, MICHIGAN: I AM A BIG FAN OF KIDS IN THE HALL AND
NEWSRADIO!!! DO YOU DO ANY WRITING FOR NEWSRADIO?
Dave Foley:
Not
in any official capacity. But the entire cast is encouraged to
change things around during rehearsal and add things and if the
producers and writers enjoy it, then it makes it's way into the
script.
Psi1258:
Who were your inspirations when you first started your career?
PA.-Larry's sister
Dave Foley:
I
guess when I first started to do comedy probably the most thing
that I was
into was Lenny Bruce which lead me to be really bad 17-year old
Lenny Bruce rip off. Then I started accessing other influences
like Python
and the Marx Brothers. And Frank Zappa - he was a huge influence.
Tvvip:
DO YOU ENJOY DOING SKETCH COMEDY OR PRIME-TIME SITCOMS MORE? ARE
THEY VERY
DIFFERENT? JENA_56
Dave Foley:
They
are very different. One has made me quite wealthy and one has
made me
critically loved. You guess which is which. But of course I love
"NewsRadio"
and it's also critically-acclaimed.
Daypfs39:
Seeing that you've worked with or are working with many past and
present SNL
cast members, do you see yourself hosting the show in the future?
Manny in Fremont, CA
Dave Foley:
I
wouldn't rule that out at all. I'd love to. It's just a matter
if they'd
like to and when there's a possible time. Especially if Hanson
could be the musical guest.
Sparkles311:
if you couldn't be on tv what would you do
Dave Foley:
I'd
cook pizzas or be an Assistant Manager of a Cineplex Odeon.
Acont:
Who makes you Laugh ???
Dave Foley:
"Mr.
Show" on HBO, Andy Kindler, Dave Higgins and the "Best of the
Marx Brothers"
still make laugh pretty hard.
For_what_is_true:
Do you ever forget the camera's are there?
Dave Foley:
I
always forget the camera is out there. Sometimes they might think
that I'm
psychotic. I always forget that "NewsRadio" isn't just being performed
for the 250 people in the bleachers.
Obladioblada:
How do you feel about your new time slot?
Dave Foley:
Delivered
from the hands of evil and into the hands of Kelsey Grammer and
Paul Reiser.
Queeenbeee:
SO, what are you doing for the rest of your life?
Dave Foley:
I
have plans to allow the calcium levels to drop in my bones, making
them ripple all the while and I'll be trying to get my internal
organs to
function less efficiently. Until I am very old.
Deathrockboy:
was being on "politically incorrect" a good experiance?
Dave Foley:
Yes,
it's one of the few shows that you can do as a minor celebrity
where you don't have to talk about yourself and that is a great
relief.
Grngumby25:
When did you know that your acting career would be successful
Dave Foley:
I
don't know that as of yet. Last spring I would have told you that
my acting
career was just about over. My sitcom was about to be canceled.
I had
produced and starred in a movie that I have been unable to get
released, of which I am very proud. But, to sum up, things weren't
looking too good. But, now the show has been renewed, the movies
still isn't
being released, but everyone that sees it, loves it. And, I've
spent the summer on 2 projects that I've found really exciting.
Psi1258:
Can you give us any hints about where Dave's relationship with
Lisa is going?
I think you two make a cute couple! :-)
Dave Foley:
I
can't give out any specifics. But, I've told to describe upcoming
developments as super freaky.
Betty_cooper:
Dave, when will "The Wrong Guy" be released?
Dave Foley:
I
don't know. The company that came is an American distributor.
They have
decided they don't want to risk the expense of a theatrical release.
We are hoping to interest another distributor in taking over the
film. We've been having screenings in Los Angeles of the picture
and it
has received hugely favorable responses from the audience.
Katie-p:
Dave, Do you Yahoo!?
Dave Foley:
Only
in the privatist moments of ectasy.
Howie29:
was it a big change to go from cable to a major network?
Dave Foley:
There
is a difference between being on a late night cable show and a
primetime network show. But, it's not a difference that I am aware
of on a
daily basis. More people seem to know who I am but still most
of the people
that come up to talk to me are people that knew me from "Kids
in the
Hall."
Karyana:
How many seasons have you signed for
Dave Foley:
My
contract is for 6 years. We are about to being the 4th year of
that contract.
But having a contract does not mean that you have a job. It just
means that they can stop you from taking other jobs.
Rocin1:
Hey Dave what was your favorite episode of News Radio?
Dave Foley:
NBC
Host : Rather, what has been right at the moment, I'd say the
James Caan
episode. I thought Andy was brilliant in it. It was a great show
for Andy and James Caan was really funny.
Chip73:
Is NBC behind the show more after the Rolling Stone story?
Dave Foley:
Surprisingly,
yes. I think this is the first true instance in show business
of an executive saying. "You know kid, I like your moxy." When
that article, came out we all thought that it would be the last
nail in our
coffin. And we were all delighted to find the good humor which
NBC took
it.
